&& The Legend Continues..Michael Jackson -"This Is It"

I think that Michael Jackson was not as appreciated for his Contributions to music && this world before he died. You truly never realize the importance of someone or something until it is gone. "This Is It"was a planned series of 50 concerts by Michael Jackson to be in London. They were scheduled to begin in July 2009 and continue through March 2010. Less than three weeks before the first show was due to begin and with all concerts being sold out, Michal died after suffering cardiac arrest. The announcement of Jackson's first 10 performances was made by the singer himself, during a press conference at The O2 arena on March 5, 2009. As many as 7,000 fans and 350 reporters awaited the singer's arrival, many donning Jackson-related clothing. The singer commented at the conference, "I just wanted to say that these will be my final show performances in London. When I say this is it, it really means this is it", adding that it was his "final curtain call".The shows, Jackson's first significant concert events since the History world Tour in 1997, had been cited as one of the year's most important musical events. This production was very costly. Coming in at a wopping 13 million, but it was all worth it because it was the King of pop, who tragically is now out of our lives. We all love && miss Michael, we hope to carry his legacy on for the many years to come. =(

In Benjamin Banneker Academy I decided to try out for the Double Dutch Team. Luckily, I aced the tryouts and now I'm on the team. Before trying out I didn't know how much work double dutch was. I'm used to jumping rope in the streets, not doing gymnastics in the rope, crazy turning, and fast pace speed. Double Dutch is a PSAL sport which means that we can practice and participate in competitions with other schools and where the uniforms. Other sports like Cheer leading && Step were also present but cheerleading is too girly && step is kind of a challenge for me. I prefer staying in my comfort zone where sports and extra curricular activities are involved because it gives me a break from the rigorous school work that I have to complete each day. Also, it looks good on my transcript for college. Well, that's all for now. Jump in && out of my blogs for more info ! =)

Making History...Once Again

The anouncement drew gasps of surprise and cries of too much, too soon. Yet President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday because the judges found his promise of disarmament and diplomacy too good to ignore.

The five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee — four of whom spoke to The Associated Press, said awarding Obama the peace prize could be seen as an early vote of confidence intended to build global support for the policies of his young administration.

WHY DID BARACK OBAMA WIN THIS PRIZE??:

They lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease U.S. conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen its role in combating climate change.

"Some people say — and I understand it — 'Isn't it premature? Too early?' Well, I'd say then that it could be too late to respond three years from now," Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, told the AP. "It is now that we have the opportunity to respond — all of us."

Jagland said the committee whittled down a record pool of 205 nominations and had "several candidates until the last minute," but it became more obvious that "we couldn't get around these deep changes that are taking place" under Obama.

Obama said he was surprised and deeply humbled by the honor, and planned to travel to Oslo in December to accept the prize.

MY QUOTE:

"Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations," he said at the White House. "To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize."

Obama will donate the $1.4 million cash award that comes with the prize to charity.

"Beauty Is Her Name"

"Beauty Is Her Name". .That's the description I use for myself. Beauty is deeper than just appearance. My name is Leilani, its Hawaiian and it means Heavenly Flower. Simple things in life annoy me but overall I'm a pretty chill person. I don't take life for granted and I take advantage of all oppurtunities that present themselves. I like to be judged on my character&& not by the way I look. I dont believe that I need attention from boys to feel special. I have my family && great friends who do a good job at that. During my free time i like to sing, dance, go shopping, and read. Im from the United States, && I live in East New York School is very important to me && I would like to be a pediatrician when I grow up. Some words that i would use to describe myself are: Funny, Spontaneous, Beautiful, Patient, Honest, Impatient, Talkative, && Humble. Although some of these things aren't the BEST words I know that I need to change some improper ways that I have. Well, this is all I have to say for the time being.....so just wait until my next blog to see wassup ! =)
