Rational Expressions

A rational expression is a fraction in which either the numerator, or the denominator, or both the numerator and the denominator are algebraic expressions. To divide a fraction by another fraction, we multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction. In other words, when you change the operation from ÷ to ×, you need to change the second fraction to its reciprocal by reversing the numerator and the denominator. Similarly, when we divide rational expressions, we “flip” the second expression and then we multiply the two expressions. After we perform these operations, we them simplify the expression to it's lowest terms.

Weekend Post- Sunday, February 28th, 2010

This weekend I have been reading poems & I've come across this poem by Maya Angelou that I absolutely adore.

IT IS CALLED "PHENOMENAL WOMAN" & HERE IT GOES:

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

*This poem reminds me of my mother because she is the phenomenal woman in my life. =D

Animoto

Animoto produces TV-quality music videos using your photos and video clips in just minutes. It's so simple to do too. Choose a song as the soundtrack to your video and Animoto will analyze every nuance of it. Producing a totally unique video each time, no two videos are ever the same.Sharing them is a cinch as well. Add them to your MySpace & Facebook profiles, on your blog, e-mail them to friends, put them up on YouTube or download them onto your computer. Some of Animoto's founders used to produce shows for MTV, Comedy Central & ABC, study classical music in London, play in rock bands in Seattle and develop software in Japan. They developed a patent-pending, Cinematic Artificial Intelligence that thinks like an actual editor and director. I haven't had that much experience with Animoto is just like Youtube and other websites we use for videos but it has more creative features, I would say it is more sophisticated.

Blabberize Video

Blabberize

Blabberize is a new service that allows you to create your own talking picture, basically a moving mouth on a still image. Using Blabberize is simple. Users upload a photo of someone to Blabberize, select a mouth and then record a message. Once done, users can email a link to the Blabberize hosted page or embed the result. Blabberize was developed based on a demonstration at Yahoo’s Open Hack Day event in September. I like using it because the short snippets are pretty funny and you can create your own on the website.

San Diego Zoo !!!!!

San Diego Zoo: Pandas is an excellent website for animal lovers especially pandas. This website shows research on pandas. It gives in great detail information on the panda lifesyle its habitat and food it eats also where they can be found. I personally learned from this website that pandas can be found in china. I thought that they lived in Brazil and tropical areas of the world but i was wrong. I would recommend this website for panda researchers or panda lovers. If you do not fall under one of those categories this website isn't recommended to you. Overall this website is excellent.

YouTube was founded in February 2005 and has become one of the most popular web portals in the world. Allowing users to submit videos and wade through the massive video section by searching for keywords, YouTube has taken the idea of viral videos to a new level. As the premier video hosting and sharing website, YouTube has something for everyone. From comedy spoofs to movie clips to music videos, if it has been on video it is probably on YouTube.Beyond just watching videos, YouTube can empower your blog by allowing you to upload videos and place them on your blog using the YouTube widget.

Knowledge Is Power !

Barnes & Noble, Inc.
is the largest book retailer in the United Staes operating mainly through its Barnes & Noble Booksellers chain of bookstores headquartered in lower Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Barnes & Noble is the nation’s top bookseller brand for the sixth year in a row, as determined by a combination of the brand’s performance on familiarity, quality, and purchase intent; the top bookseller in quality for the second year in a row and the number two retailer in trust, according to the EquiTrend Brand Study by Harris Interactive. I wouldnt necessarily recommend Barnes&Noble because their books are expensive. Other companies/stores such as borders and amazon have the same books at a lower more affordable price. However Barnes&Noble is a god place to go to for information for research projects or assignments.

Homecoming was on November 20th, 2009. [Last Friday]. Many people amped it up to be something spectacular but I was disappointed after the fact. I really wanted my $10 back that I paid for my ticket. The music was okay && I had fun but I thought the party could have been better. Some people were doing inappropriate things because the lights were off. But hey, what can you expect when you have about 300 teenagers in a dark room with dubbing music playing. The step team had a small performance and it was kool, took up some time though. What I didnt understand was why homecoming ended at like 10:30. Before it said specifically 7:00-11:00 p.m. so again, I was dissapointed. Overall, I had fun =)

Jennifer Lopez at the AMAs

Musical icon Jennifer Lopez gave a stunning performance at the American Musical Awards 2009 on Sunday when she performed her latest single ‘Louboutins’. The award ceremony, which was held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles turned out to be star studded event as it was widely attended by various celebrities of the musical fraternity. Her’s was one of the most awaited events of the AMA night.

J.Lo performed to her newest song from her brand new album “Love?”, which is scheduled to be released early next year. However, the much acclaimed actor, who is known for her flawless and professional appearances onstage, failed to give a smooth performance this time as in the middle of the song the singer tumbled and fell down on stage. She recovered soon enough and carried on with her performance without missing a beat. Reportedly, the incident occurred as the singer was midway through her song and was supposed to walk over few backup dancers, who had lined themselves as a staircase. The sequence did not go as per the plan and the singer slipped and landed on her bottom.

&& The Legend Continues..Michael Jackson -"This Is It"

I think that Michael Jackson was not as appreciated for his Contributions to music && this world before he died. You truly never realize the importance of someone or something until it is gone. "This Is It"was a planned series of 50 concerts by Michael Jackson to be in London. They were scheduled to begin in July 2009 and continue through March 2010. Less than three weeks before the first show was due to begin and with all concerts being sold out, Michal died after suffering cardiac arrest. The announcement of Jackson's first 10 performances was made by the singer himself, during a press conference at The O2 arena on March 5, 2009. As many as 7,000 fans and 350 reporters awaited the singer's arrival, many donning Jackson-related clothing. The singer commented at the conference, "I just wanted to say that these will be my final show performances in London. When I say this is it, it really means this is it", adding that it was his "final curtain call".The shows, Jackson's first significant concert events since the History world Tour in 1997, had been cited as one of the year's most important musical events. This production was very costly. Coming in at a wopping 13 million, but it was all worth it because it was the King of pop, who tragically is now out of our lives. We all love && miss Michael, we hope to carry his legacy on for the many years to come. =(

In Benjamin Banneker Academy I decided to try out for the Double Dutch Team. Luckily, I aced the tryouts and now I'm on the team. Before trying out I didn't know how much work double dutch was. I'm used to jumping rope in the streets, not doing gymnastics in the rope, crazy turning, and fast pace speed. Double Dutch is a PSAL sport which means that we can practice and participate in competitions with other schools and where the uniforms. Other sports like Cheer leading && Step were also present but cheerleading is too girly && step is kind of a challenge for me. I prefer staying in my comfort zone where sports and extra curricular activities are involved because it gives me a break from the rigorous school work that I have to complete each day. Also, it looks good on my transcript for college. Well, that's all for now. Jump in && out of my blogs for more info ! =)

Making History...Once Again

The anouncement drew gasps of surprise and cries of too much, too soon. Yet President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday because the judges found his promise of disarmament and diplomacy too good to ignore.

The five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee — four of whom spoke to The Associated Press, said awarding Obama the peace prize could be seen as an early vote of confidence intended to build global support for the policies of his young administration.

WHY DID BARACK OBAMA WIN THIS PRIZE??:

They lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease U.S. conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen its role in combating climate change.

"Some people say — and I understand it — 'Isn't it premature? Too early?' Well, I'd say then that it could be too late to respond three years from now," Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, told the AP. "It is now that we have the opportunity to respond — all of us."

Jagland said the committee whittled down a record pool of 205 nominations and had "several candidates until the last minute," but it became more obvious that "we couldn't get around these deep changes that are taking place" under Obama.

Obama said he was surprised and deeply humbled by the honor, and planned to travel to Oslo in December to accept the prize.

MY QUOTE:

"Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations," he said at the White House. "To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize."

Obama will donate the $1.4 million cash award that comes with the prize to charity.

PICTURE OF THE LOGO

"Beauty Is Her Name"

"Beauty Is Her Name". .That's the description I use for myself. Beauty is deeper than just appearance. My name is Leilani, its Hawaiian and it means Heavenly Flower. Simple things in life annoy me but overall I'm a pretty chill person. I don't take life for granted and I take advantage of all oppurtunities that present themselves. I like to be judged on my character&& not by the way I look. I dont believe that I need attention from boys to feel special. I have my family && great friends who do a good job at that. During my free time i like to sing, dance, go shopping, and read. Im from the United States, && I live in East New York School is very important to me && I would like to be a pediatrician when I grow up. Some words that i would use to describe myself are: Funny, Spontaneous, Beautiful, Patient, Honest, Impatient, Talkative, && Humble. Although some of these things aren't the BEST words I know that I need to change some improper ways that I have. Well, this is all I have to say for the time being.....so just wait until my next blog to see wassup ! =)
